Gretha Helberg

I guess I can say I enjoy to create, whether it is an oil painting or an etching, it does not really matter what I am creating, as long as I enjoy what I am doing.  I think it is the whole process of being immersed in my work while creating it, my eyes see something, my heart gets a feeling for the subject and then, the final stage, my hands make the artwork.

Life inspires me - people around me, the beauty of God's creations - I try to capture this all in my art.

I try to capture "Light" and "Peace" in my atmospheric seascapes and landscapes, it MUST draw the viewer into the painting and capture his or her attention. I paint in oil on canvas.

I develop the etching plate with the sun's exposure.  No hazardous acid baths are used in the developing process, as in the case with traditional printmaking processes, e.g. copperplate or steel plates artists like Rembrandt van Rijn used in the 1500's. For months I experimented with different "polymer" plates until, through trial and error, I found the correct plate, giving me the results I desired.  With this type of developing, I can also use my photographs and transform them into one-of-a-kind fine art etchings.
